4th of July events in Highlands County

Lake Placid

The Lake Placid fireworks display will take place at 9 p.m. over Lake June in Winter from the Lake June Ball Park. Arrive early for parking.

VFW Post 3880 has planned a three-day celebration for the Fourth of July, open to the public. It will kick off with a picnic at 5:30 p.m., consisting of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato and macaroni salads, baked beans, desserts and watermelon. Music will be provided by DJ Ben of Lake Placid.

At 1 p.m. July 5, bingo will be played. At 5:30 p.m., Frank E will play for dancing or just listening. Food will be pulled pork sandwiches and French fries.

July 6 events will include sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers and summer salad all day. Poker will be played at 1 p.m. A cake walk will begin at 5 p.m. Music will be provided by DJ Ben at 5:30 p.m.

The Red, White & Blues Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 4 and 5 in downtown Sebring.

Festivities will be held at the Allen Altvater Cultural Center on Lake Jackson with live music, a patriotic revue by Highlands Little Theatre, a hot dog eating contest, a beautiful baby bathing suit contest, a patriotic pet costume contest, a “Wizard of Oz” trivia contest, a variety of food vendors, a beer garden and a fireworks show at 9 p.m. July 4 over Lake Jackson.

July 4th performers include Heartland Idol winner Nala Price, 1-2 p.m.; Simple Acts Performance Showcase, 2-3 p.m.; Heartland Idol runner up Cammie Lester, 5-6 p.m.; The Shannon Reed Band, 6:30-8:45 p.m.; and the Highlands Little Theatre’s Patriotic Revue every hour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Emcee will be County Commissioner Don Elwell.

July 5th performers include Trace, 2-4:30 p.m., and The Blues Factor Band, 6:30-10 p.m., which features a previous saxophonist for the Rev. Al Green. Emcee will be Sebring Mayor John Shoop.

Sun ‘n Lake

Sun ‘n Lake will celebrate Independence Day July 3 with inflatables, face painting, games, balloons, music by The Shannon Reed Band and more 5-10 p.m. at Sun ‘n Lake Golf Club and Island View Restaurant.

Sun ‘n Lake Golf Club will host a cornhole tournament at 5:30 p.m. WWOJ will be on-hand to broadcast live. Fireworks will start at approximately 9 p.m.

Hamburger and hot dog meals will be available on the lawn starting at $5. Bring your chairs and blankets; no cooler or pets, please.

Avon Park

The Avon Park Fourth of July Celebration will start at 11 a.m. in Donaldson Park with multiple food and craft vendors, music, bounce houses, family activities and a beer garden sponsored by the American Legion.

The Heartland Pops will host a free All American Concert at 6:30 p.m. at the Grogan Center, 595 E. Main St. Hot dogs and refreshments will be provided by the youth group of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Learn more at www.heartlandpops.org.

Fireworks will start at 9 p.m. on Lake Verona. The community is encouraged to watch from Donaldson Park or areas surrounding the beach. Bring a chair.
