AVON PARK - A slow-moving wildfire that burned through 33 acres of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission property was contained late Friday afternoon.
Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Melissa Yunas said the Florida Forest Service removed the fuel source with bulldozers, and the fire went out.
No structures were threatened, Yunas said. Only palmetto plants low to the ground were burned near Avon Estates.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Yunas said.
