LAKE PLACID-A two-vehicle crash in Lake Placid at 7:05 p.m. Monday took the life of an 89-year-old man while a 2-year-old escaped with minor injuries, Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Clifford Hilton, of Lake Placid, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries, the FHP says.
His passenger, June Kinney, also 89 and also from Lake Placid, was taken to the same hospital and was reported to be in critical condition, authorities say.
The driver of the other vehicle, April Armstrong, 25, of Lake Placid, was taken to Florida Hospital Lake Placid and reported to be in serious condition. Amber Armstrong, 2, was reported to have minor injuries, the FHP adds.
Hilton was going east on Lake Mirror Drive in a 1997 Mercury. At the intersection of the road with U.S. 27, he "entered into the direct path" of the Buick, which was going south on U.S. 27, FHP says. The Buick's front struck the Mercury on the left side.
FHP says alcohol was not involved. Both the Armstrongs were wearing a seat belt, the report states. It's unknown if Hilton and Kinney were belted up, the FHP adds.
