AVON PARK- The South Florida State College 2014 Matinee Series begins at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with a performance from The Perfect Gentlemen in the Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The series is comprised of 10 performances which run on consecutive Tuesday afternoons, January through March.
The Perfect Gentlemen are a hilarious quartet that harkens back to the vaudeville era with a diverse selection of songs and styles. They recreate the close harmonies of groups as the Ink Spots and the Pied Pipers, and comic songs made famous by Louis Jordan and The Hoosier Hotshots.
Jordan Bennett will perform favorites from Broadway along with a variety of pop classics Jan. 14.
On Jan. 21, The Edwards Twins will entertain with celebrity impersonations. They transform into superstars like Barbra Streisand, Elton John, Cher, Ray Charles, Bette Midler and more.
Relive the smooth sounds of the Four Seasons with Let's Hang On, the tribute band, on Jan. 28.
Comedienne Etta May will bring laughs Feb. 4. This self-proclaimed "Queen of Southern Sass" will crack you up with stories about raising her family, getting older and life in the South.
Boogie-woogie piano virtuoso Tommy Johnson plays Feb. 11. He is enjoying fame a bit later in life, with nearly 7 million views on YouTube. He plays everything from classical, jazz and blues, to boogie-woogie.
Coming from Branson, Mo., is Doug Gabriel and Family on Feb. 18. He plays guitar like Roy Clark and Vince Gill, and can tickle the ivories like Jerry Lee Lewis. Gabriel's show features classics by artists such as Kenny Rogers, Elvis, Conway Twitty, Tom Jones and Lionel Richie.
The Sounds of Soul are bringing the hits of Motown to life Feb. 25. This high-energy group unleashes superior vocals and slick dance moves powered by pure soul. They have performed across the country since 1996.
The Tamburitzans return to the SFSC stage March 4. From Duquesne University, this multicultural song and dance company performs and preserves the music, songs, dress and dances of eastern European and neighboring folk cultures.
The Ditchfield Family Singers present "The Music of Your Life" on March 11. Featured in the show are favorites from Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Mel Torme, Nat King Kole, Tony Bennett, Doris Day and Dean Martin.
