The Florida Department of Transportation has issued a road advisory for the following streets in Highlands County undergoing maintenance work for this week:
Valerie Boulevard from U.S. 27 to Memorial Drive: Motorists should watch for intermittent daytime lane closures as workers put sod on the south side of the road and construct a handrail just west of Memorial Drive. This project includes adding sidewalk to the south side of Valerie Boulevard and constructing a drive-through lane connecting Valerie Boulevard to Starfish Lane for the Sebring Ridge Utilities drop-off box. Expected completion is this summer.
Kenilworth Boulevard from Weigle Avenue to Denise Avenue: Crews will begin clearing for sidewalk construction, relocating the water main at Emerald Avenue and constructing a new driveway just west of Emerald Avenue. This project includes adding sidewalk with wheelchair accessible ramps along the north side of Kenilworth Boulevard, relocating utilities and reconstructing some driveway entrances as part of the Safe Routes to Schools program.
U.S. 98 from U.S. 27 to Ashton Drive: Crews will repair shoulders on both sides of this two-lane road. Expect lane closures from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through Thursday. Motorists should use caution and be prepared to stop.
U.S. 27 from Bramblewood Road to Martin Road: Expect intermittent northbound lane closures during the day while utility crews replace poles along the east side of U.S. 27 through early June. Work will begin at Bramblewood Road and proceed north. Motorists should use caution and watch for changes in the traffic pattern.
U.S. 27 from Lake Isis Avenue to Polk County line: Motorists should watch for intermittent day and nighttime lane closures both north and southbound while crews place permanent roadway markings, including lines, arrows and stop bars. Weather permitting, scheduled completion is within the next two weeks.
S.R. 66 west of C.R. 635: Crews will be repairing the shoulders along the eastbound lanes. While not scheduled, lane closures may occur.
S.R. 17 (Ridgewood Drive) from Sebring Parkway to Glenwood Avenue: Crews will reduce S.R. 17 (Drive) to one lane with flaggers directing traffic and/or use the turn lanes at Sebring Parkway to shift northbound traffic while they remove and replace the existing curb. Expect lane closures and traffic shifts from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m.
