Motorists cautioned about lane closures, delays in road work zones

The Florida Department of Transportation has issued its weekly road watch for the following projects in Highlands County. Motorists are reminded to wear safety belts and drive with caution, and that speeding fines double in work zones.

U.S. 27 from Lagrow Road to U.S. 98: Expect intermittent lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, while crews shape the ditches and shoulders along U.S. 27. Work will continue through the end of August.

U.S. 27 from Highlands Avenue to Sebring Parkway: Crews will be shaping the ditches and shoulders from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays. No lane closures are scheduled, but use caution and watch for trucks and equipment entering and leaving the highway.

U.S. 27 from Bramblewood Road to Martin Road: Expect intermittent northbound lane closures during the day while utility crews replace poles along the east side of U.S. 27 through mid-August.

Lemon Avenue railroad crossing west of Raymond Street: Use caution and watch for workers close to the road as crews install new flashing lights, gates, LEDs and signal house at the railroad crossing. Expected completion is this fall.
