One killed in U.S. accident; part of southbound U.S. 27 near Flare Road closed

SEBRING- One person has been killed in a four-vehicle accident on U.S. 27 near the Alan Jay Kia dealership, which is north of Hammock Road, authorities said.

All southbound lanes are currently closed from Flare to Hammock roads, said a news release from the Highlands County Sheriff's Office.

Southbound U.S. 27 traffic is being diverted on Flare Road to Brunns, then to Hammock Road and east to U.S. 27.

Northbound lanes on U.S. 27 are not affected, however, traffic is very heavy.

Travelers are requested to stay out of the area if possible.

"Delays will continue for quite some time, but we will inform you when the southbound lanes are open," the news release said.

Sebring Police Department units are working this accident at this time.
