Country fair to benefit missions
LAKE PLACID - A country fair will be held 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today and Saturday at Community Church of God, 735 S. Sun 'N Lakes Blvd., across from Lake Country Elementary.
There will be many handcrafted items, including decorations for Christmas, original art, gifts, homemade soup and baked goods.
All proceeds will go to support Christian missions both locally and in other countries.
German food fest, indoor yard sale slated
SEBRING - The Meals and Deals German Food Fest and Third Annual Indoor Yard Sale will be held today and Saturday at Sebring Church of the Brethren, 700 S. Pine St.
Bratwurst, homemade kraut, homemade German potato salad, homemade red cabbage soup, homemade apple streudel and German chocolate cake will be served 4-7 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
American cuisine and the indoor yard sale will also be held during the same hours.

Under The Oaks Opry hosting musical show
SEBRING - Country, bluegrass, blues and gospel music will be performed at 7 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday at Under The Oaks Opry, 3501 Beck Ave., hosted by G.W. Saunders.

Christmas gifts to be collected at line dance
SEBRING - The Tanglewood Line Dancers will host a line dance 6-9 p.m. tonight.
Admission is $2. There will be a 50/50 drawing. All residents and guests are welcome.
Proceeds from this dance and the Dec. 13 dance will go toward Christmas gifts for children. At both dances, unwrapped gifts for children ages infant to 12 years old will be accepted.

Dance club to host The Skylarks
SEBRING - The Highlands Social Dance Club will host the music of The Skylarks 10-piece dance band 7-9:30 p.m. tonight at the Highlands Social Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.
Dance to the sounds of the '40s, '50s and '60s. Snacks and sandwiches will be available. Admissions is $5 for members and $7 for nonmembers. Dress smart-casual. Everyone is welcome, including singles.

Tomoka Heights rummage, bake sale
LAKE PLACID - Tomoka Heights will hold its annual rummage and bake sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the Clubhouse; enter through the south gate.
There will be household items, electronics, furniture, Christmas decorations, jewelry, collectables, glassware, candles, plastics, baskets and more. A homemade bakery will also sell items.
Sebring Mobile Estates breakfast
SEBRING - Sebring Mobile Estates, 4108 Kenilworth Blvd., will host a country breakfast 7-9:30 a.m. Saturday.
The menu will include pancakes, eggs, home fries, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, coffee and milk.
Donations will be made to Feed the Hungry and the Highlands County Humane Society.
Church of the Redeemer jewelry sale
AVON PARK - Church of the Redeemer will hold its annual Jewelry Sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, located on U.S. 27 across from Wells Dodge Motors.

Community Family Fest slated
SEBRING - Community Family Fest will be held noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at 3700 Schumacher Road, sponsored by First Hispanic Church DDC.
There will be vendors, food, games, prizes, music, the Blood Mobile and more. Donations will be accepted for the Mariano Rivera Panama Project.
Ballroom dancers plan Turkey Trot
LAKE PLACID - The Lake Placid Ballroom Dancers will host a Turkey Trot dance 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday at the Lake Placid Elks Lodge.
Allen will offer the soft sound of the '50s, '60s and '70s. The Ladies of the Elks will have sandwiches and desserts available. Bob Smart will oversee free dance lesson in the lounge f5:30-6:30 p.m. Walt and Susan Mirasky will be on hand as instructors.
There will be a box for nonperishable food items which will be donated to Manna Ministries for their Thanksgiving food shelves.
Admission is $5 for LPBD members and $7 for non-members.
The dance is open to the public and singles are welcome. The Elks Lodge is located behind the Winn-Dixie on C.R. 621.
Highlands Hammock hosting Groovus
SEBRING - Highlands Hammock State Park will host the jazz and classic rock music of Groovus 7-9 p.m. Saturday in the picnic area as part of its Music in the Park Concert Series.
Concert admission is $5 per person; accompanied children 12 and under are admitted free. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and flashlights. Regular park admission of $6 per vehicle is waived after 6 p.m. on concert nights.
Proceeds benefit park improvement via Friends of Highlands Hammock.
Masons to serve pork dinner
LAKE PLACID - Placid Lodge No. 282 F&AM will hold a pulled pork dinner 4-7 p.m. Saturday at the lodge, 102 N. Maine Ave.
The dinner will consist of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, roll, drink and dessert for $8.

SEBRING - Highlands County Hootenanny will start at 7 p.m. Saturday at El Bravo Night Club.
There will be live music from eight bands ranging in styles from folk and punk to metal and ska. You must be 18 years or older. Cost is $5. Ladies drink free until 11 p.m.
Commotion playing at Jaxson's
LAKE PLACID - Commotion Band will play 8-11 p.m Saturday at Jaxson's Restaurant, 443 Lake June Road.
The band plays a variety of classic rock and dance music.
Sebring Masons to serve barbecue
SEBRING - Sebring Lodge No. 249 will serve an all-you-can-eat barbecue chicken lunch 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday for an $8 donation.
The menu includes chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad, dessert and beverage. The public is invited; takeout orders are available.
The lodge is located on the corner of Home Avenue and Sebring Parkway.
