Flag wave slated for today
— The Highlands Tea Party will host a Memorial Day flag wave 10 a.m. to noon today at Boom Boom’s Guns and Ammo, 330 U.S. 27 N.
Bring flags and only signs that honor veterans.
Dance to benefit cat sanctuary
— Tanglewood will host a line dance 6-9 p.m. tonight.
Admission is $2 for residents and guests. Proceeds will benefit Heartland Cat Sanctuary.
Donations of cat food, cleaning products and bedding are needed.
Dirty Dozen benefiting military
— The fifth annual Dirty Dozen and Half Dozen is scheduled for Saturday at the National Guard Armory in Avon Park.
The mud will start flying with the Half Dozen run at 9 a.m. for kids 7-12 years old. It is a 1-mile course with six crazy and muddy obstacles, and a slip-’n’-slide at the finish line.
It will be followed by the adult waves for those 13 and older running every 30 minutes. The 2-mile course will have 12 challenging obstacles.
Each participant will receive a Dri-Fit event shirt, authentic military dog tags and a swag bag with either Sparkling Ice or beer.
All proceeds will go to military and first responders, including West Sebring Volunteer Fire Department, Florida National Guard Bravo Battery and the Folds of Honor Foundation.
Gates open at 8 a.m. with Rebekah Wills singing the National Anthem at 8:45. Prizes will be awarded for males and females in six age groups. Parking is $5 per car. No coolers, please, as vendors will be on-site.
A presenting sponsor is still being sought for $5,000, who will have the honor of naming the final recipient. For information, contact Lisa at crossfit sebring@yahoo.com.

Riders slate first ‘Pig Out’ poker run
— The American Legion Riders of Highlands County have planned its first Memorial Weekend Pig Out Poker Run on Saturday.
Registration will be held at American Legion Post 74. Cost is $10 per hand, including dinner.
Stops include Fred’s Bar, VFW Post 4300 Sebring, VFW Post 9853 Avon Park, Charlotte’s Web, Open Roads and, lastly, American Legion Post 25 in Lake Placid at 4:30 p.m.

Temple Church plans yard sale
— Lake Placid Temple Church of God, 51 Lake June Road, will hold a parking lot/yard sale 8-11 a.m. Saturday. There will be several used and new items.
Sebring football car wash, watermelons
— The Sebring football annual car wash and watermelon sale will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the south Sebring Marathon gas station and in the Publix North parking lot at Eye Express.
Watermelons are from Super Sweet Farms and are $4. Donations will be accepted for the car wash.
Don West, Silver Eagle Band to perform
— Don West and the Silver Eagle Band will play classic country music 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Highlands Social Center, 3400 Sebring Parkway.
