Law enforcement course offered

— The South Florida State College Criminal Justice Academy is accepting applications for its next Basic Law Enforcement course.

This is the course required to become a state of Florida certified law enforcement officer.

Classes will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus some Saturdays and Sundays, beginning July  28.

By successfully completing 770 contact hours of training, students earn occupational certificates and are eligible to take the state certification examination for correctional officers.

Class starts July 21 for security guards

— The Criminal Justice Academy at SFSC is offering a 40-hour security guard training course from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday starting July  21. It will run two and a half weeks.

This course is required for a state of Florida Class D security guard license.

Topics will include patrol techniques, first aid, terrorism, Florida statutes and those mandated by the Florida Department of Business Regulation.

Preregistration is required; the course number is CRN 30845. The cost is $170.
