SEBRING — A man who fled Highlands County deputies last week was finally arrested after he also tried to flee from Sebring police officers, according to a report released Monday.
Sandy Vega, 24, no street address given, Sebring, was arrested by the Sebring Police Department and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, trespass, resisting an officer without violence, possession of marijuana with intent to sell or deliver within 1,000 feet of a designated area, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug equipment.
Events leading to the arrest began when Highlands County deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person last week in the DeSoto City area. When deputies spotted that person, he got out of a vehicle and fled.
Sebring police later spotted the suspect in a vehicle and pursued it, the report said. But, the driver refused to stop and drove on several streets, the report said.
Eventually, the passenger, later discovered to be Vega, got out, jumped over a 6-foot fence and ran, the report said.
When police arrested Vega, he had a backpack with drugs and methamphetamine inside it, the report said.
