AVON PARK - An apparent undercover operation by two neighbors may have helped law enforcement officers nab two other neighbors in connection with burglaries in the neighborhood.
Joey Christopher Goodson, 23, 1695 Pardee Sub Road, Avon Park, and Matthew Steven Rivera, 21, 1953 Terrapin St., Avon Park, were arrested by the Highlands County Sheriff's Office and were charged with burglary of an unoccupied structure, third-degree grand theft, dealing in stolen property, possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and possession of drug equipment.
Investigators had received information from a victim that two other neighbors not involved in the thefts pretended to be interested in buying the stolen property, but instead just took photos, a warrant affidavit said.
The burglaries were first reported by a man who said that someone stole about $2,000 worth of audio equipment from storage bins in his backyard, the affidavit said.
Not long after that crime was reported, a man and a woman living on the same street told authorities that someone had burglarized their vehicles, stealing, money, jewelry and compact disks, the affidavit said.
One of the victims later told deputies that another neighbor had taken photos of her stolen property inside another neighbor's house, the affidavit said.
During a search of the other neighbor's house, deputies found stolen property, as well as marijuana, the report said.
