Wildfire contained but smoke may be a problem, officials say

—Forestry officials are warning motorists driving along C.R. 621 to watch out for smoke coming from a wildlife caused by a lightning strike that burned 500 acres of saw grass east of C.R. 621.

The fire has been contained and nothing is being threatened, said Melissa Yunas, Florida Forestry Service wildfire mitigation specialist Tuesday.

The fire is inside a water reservoir and is still burning, Yunas said. The wildfire is inside a 1,000-acre block of saw grass and has the potential to grow, Yunas said.

“Unless rain saturates the area, the wildfire will continue to meander in the saw grass,” she said. Forestry officials are patrolling and monitoring the fire to see it does not spread.
