Streaks bolt to first

- The Sebring boys and girls track teams took full advantage of their home-track advantage in Tuesday's Class 3A-District 8 meet at Firemen's Field.

The Blue Streaks boys team finished first in the six-team field with a score of 202, Auburndale placed second with 121, Lakeland Kathleen totaled 102, Winter Haven was fourth at 66, Lake Gibson had 67 and Lake Region scored 44.

In the girls competition, Kathleen was first with 236, Auburndale had 138, Lake Region totaled 122, Winter Haven had 66, Sebring scored 54 and Lake Gibson had 14.

Sebring's Jordyn Blount led the boys with a first in the high jump event by clearing 6 feet, 2 inches, and he won the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 9 inches. Blue Streak Donte Savage was fourth in the long jump at 18 feet, 11 inches.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for the regional meet next week in Tampa.

Sebring's Byron Cobb won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, Joseph Piccione placed second at 11 feet and Mitchell Winslow was third at 10 feet, 6 inches.

Blue Streak senior Gary Demarest won the discus event with a toss of 127 feet, 8 inches and he placed second in the shot put with an effort of 45 feet.

Sebring's Desmond Edwards finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 39 feet, 9 inches.

Brian Dixon was fourth in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.44 and he came in third in the 200-meter dash in 21.87.

Eric Foster won the 1,600-meter run in 4:40.70, Malcolm Holdman was third in 4:52.89 and Damian Foster came in fourth at 4:53.85.

Eric Foster finished first in the 3,200-meter run in 10:53.49, and Damian Foster placed second at 11:15.70.

Sebring's Cameron Cobb won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.29, and he finished third in the 300-meter hurdles in 43.26.

Sebring's A team was first in the 4x100 meter relay in 42.97, and the Blue Streaks A squad finished fourth in the 4x800 relay in 8:52.06.

On the girls' side, Sebring's Kaytlyn Cooper finished fourth in the 3,200-meter run in 14:22.93.

Blue Streak Anna Freitas was fourth in the pole vault by clearing 7 feet. The Sebring A team was fourth in the 4x800 relay in 12:36.90.

Denise Constant placed second in the discus with a toss of 92 feet, 7 inches, and Sheliah Harris was third at 90 feet, 4 inches.

In Wednesday's Class 2A-Region 3 meet at Berkeley Prep, no Avon Park athletes advanced to state, while Lake Placid had sophomore Quiahja Williams qualify for state with a third in the high jump and a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash.

"I'm really proud of Quiahja," said Lake Placid coach Scott Morgan. "It's great that she is going to state in two events. She is always pushing to improve, and going to state should be a great experience for her."

The state finals are in Jacksonville on May 2.
