Tubbs tops Sertoma golf

SPRING LAKE - The summer golf season got underway with the Sertoma Junior Golf Tour event at Spring Lake Golf Resort on Monday and Tuesday. The two-day tournament attracted a field of 54 junior golfers ages 6-18, who competed over the demanding Spring Lake courses. Ben Tubbs ran away with the boys age 15-15 age group with scores of 74-76-150, while Andrew Wally was a distant second at 157, Jason Cannon came in third with a 164 and Sam Rogers finished fourth at 169. In the boys 17-18 division, Cole Berger was first with a total of 163, Easton Davis placed second with a 166, Austin Tracey came in third at 167 and Will Bennett claimed fourth with a 171.
In the girls 14-18 age group, Sarah Liles cruised to first with a score of 165, Megan Crews was second at 176, Lindsey Moffat finished third with a 180 and Meghan Griffin had a 191. "I think we had a good turnout with the first tournament being on a Monday and Tuesday," said Sertoma Junior Golf Tour Director and Sun 'n Lake Golf Club Professional Andy Kesling. "All the kids played pretty well and the folks at Spring Lake Golf Resort did a great job of hosting the tournament. "We really enjoyed being out here and look forward to returning to Spring Lake next year." Julian Crozier won the boys 13-14 age group, which played nine holes each day, with a 123 and Carson Warner came in second at 132. In the boys 11-12 division, Beckham Donovan finished first with an 89, Jackson Griffin was second with a 106, David Herbert came in third at 116 and Josh Bible was fourth at 131. Ashley Engle was first in the girls 11-13 age group with a 105, Alyssa Armentrout placed second at 112 and Hannah Revell came in third with a 118. In the boys 9-10 age group, Billy Carol came in first with a total of 87, Zach Doorlag finished second with a 91 and Jaxson Davis was third at 104 after defeating Cade Scarborough on the third playoff hole. In the boys and girls age 6-8 age group, which played six holes from 200 yards out, Jack DuPriest finished first with a 63, Parker Griffin placed second at 64, Nolan Chandler was third at 71 and Brody Hall finished fourth with a score of 73. The next Sertoma Junior Golf Tour event is set for the Country club of Sebring on June 20. Tee times begin at 8:30 a.m. The Sertoma Junior Golf Tour runs through August with weekly tournaments held at different courses throughout the Heartland.
