Android 15 QPR1 adds ‘up to 80% range’ Pixel battery charging

Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 fully releases the ability to control battery charging up to 80% for Pixel devices.

In beta 1, some users saw a notification about enabling the new payment limit, but were unable to disable it. Beta 2 addresses the issue of priorities:

Fixed an issue from disabling the 80% device charge limit. (Issue #363170385)

In Settings > Battery, there’s a new “Charging Optimization” menu after you plug it in for the first time. Adaptive charging – which “pauses at 80% and ends up at 100% for an hour before you normally unplug” – “capped at 80” is included. %: Your phone will only charge to 80% battery.

If you choose that option, a shield icon will appear over the battery in the status bar, while the widget, lockscreen, and always-on display will indicate that your phone is “Finished Charging.” It’s similar to the Pixel tablet and charging speaker dock experience.

This is a service that helps extend battery life. Google has yet to update its Pixel support documentation to detail the battery charging limit, and that won’t happen until the launch of Android 15 QPR1 in December.
