A four-car tram crashed into Universal Studios Hollywood Saturday night, injuring more than a dozen people, officials said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Maria Abel said the tram's last car was heading down the hill near the parking structure when it hit the tracks.
“There was some kind of problem with the brakes,” Abel said. “We're not quite sure yet.”
The Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call at 9:04 pm and responded to the scene.
A total of 14 people were injured, including one person with moderate injuries, according to Frederick Fielding, public information officer for the county fire department.
At least four passengers were taken to hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Abal said.
In a statement late Saturday, the theme park confirmed an incident “resulted in multiple minor injuries.”
“We are working to support our guests and understand the circumstances that led to the accident,” Universal Studios Hollywood said in a statement to The Times.
Abel said the park's tram can carry more than 100 people, but it was unclear how many people were on board at the time of the incident.
The crash will be investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
The Universal Studios Tram Tour, also known as the World Famous Studio Tour, is a signature attraction at the theme park. The park is celebrating the ride's 60th anniversary starting next week.
The tour goes behind the scenes of film sets from “Jazz” to Jordan Peele's “Nope” and offers a glimpse into the past 50 years of Universal films.
