(CNN) At least eight of the Republican “fake voters” in Georgia have accepted immunity deals in an ongoing criminal investigation into efforts by Donald Trump and his allies to rig the 2020 election there. According to a new court filing.
Fulton County District Attorney Fannie Willis previously announced that all 16 GOP fraudulent voters in Georgia were targeted in her investigation. Last month, Willis offered immunity to a number of Republicans who served as pro-Trump voters, and they accepted the filing.
The newly secured co-conspirators could provide insights into a key aspect of Willis’ extensive investigation into election interference: the role of Trump associates in orchestrating the effort to block the certification of the 2020 presidential vote and put forward alternative voters.
Other Republicans who served as voters for Trump could face more legal exposure in his investigation, according to people familiar with the matter.
Attorney Kimberly Boroughs DeBrow’s response to Willis’ earlier motion to disqualify DeBrow from the case was filed Friday. DeBrow represents a group of GOP fake voters in Georgia and opposed the motion to throw him out of the case.
“The district attorney’s motion is reckless, frivolous, offensive and completely without merit,” Debrow filed Friday.
The district attorney’s office declined to comment.
Debrow created a conflict in the collective representation of bogus voters when the district attorney’s office filed an earlier court filing that the bogus voters had started accusing each other.
In Friday’s filing, DeBrow forcefully responded, “There is no merit to the district attorney’s claim that any candidate incriminated another in their recent interview, and the records and transcripts bear that out.”
The district attorney’s office has accused DeBrow and a lawyer he previously worked with of failing to bring immunization plans to GOP fraudulent voters in 2022.
DeBrow denied that charge, saying a panel of voters rejected “potential” immunity deals last year, but specific and individual immunity deals weren’t offered until this spring.
Willis recently said in a letter to local law enforcement officials that he plans to announce possible charges against Trump or his associates between July 11 and September 1.
