As the Trojans try to pick up a crucial win for their College Football Playoff hopes, No. 6 USC led No. 15 Notre Dame 17-7 at halftime of their rivalry matchup. If they win the Pac-12 Championship Game on Saturday and next Friday, the Trojans have a strong chance to make the four-team field. The Fighting Irish have been playing some great football of late, but gave the Trojans a challenge in the first half.
Behind the play of quarterback Caleb Williams, USC took a two-possession lead into halftime. Williams played a variety of roles for the Trojans in the first half. In addition to some elite quarterback play with a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown, Williams also booted a 58-yard punt. On another play, he was injured as a receiver on a trick play and was called for pass interference while breaking up a potential interception. With the Fighting Irish kicking off the regular season, and USC vying for titles, the second half draws theaters.
CBS Sports will be here throughout the night with live updates, highlights and analysis, and the Trojans vs. Irish should be an exciting game to end the rivalry week.
